Bailey fell ill at the age of 4 and despite several visits to his GP and the hospital the Doctors could find nothing wrong.  His health continued to deteriorate and despite being told she was paranoid, Becki Bailey’s mum undeterred took him to see yet another Doctor. Upon examining Bailey the Doctor found a large lump in his tummy and could not understand how this had been missed time and time again by previous Doctors. The diagnosis was cancer! Neuroblastoma which affects only 100 children in the UK each year. Becki says “Our lives came crashing down, everything was a whirlwind, Great Ormond Street Hospital became our home for most of the next two years and we watched Bailey fight to live through all the suffering, pain and sickness with broken hearts”. Against all the odds Bailey pulled through and spent the next 5 years in remission.

Thinking the worst was behind them and enjoying a care free life with their son at last, Becki and her family were later dealt a devastating blow at the end of 2011 when they heard the words “the cancer has returned”.

Tragically, after being in remission for almost 7 years, this beautiful, gentle little boy has relapsed. The Cancer is BACK and his family are devastated. More chemotherapy was given to him to give him more time, and he is currently undergoing his fifth round. The doctor did her best to explain to Bailey what would happen to him during treatment and she asked Bailey if he had any questions. Bailey’s only question was “Does it hurt to die”? My heart was ripped out said Becki, Bailey reached for my hand and said “don’t cry mum, I’m going to win”.

Treatment began; hair loss, sickness, pain, weight loss, depression, fear, yet all the while Bailey said “I’m going to beat this”. After researching Bailey’s options his family have been told there is a pioneering new treatment which can give him another chance at life. However his family would have to pay enormous amounts of money as the treatment is not available in the UK or via the NHS. Treatment costs are around £500k, maybe more “but we will not give up” says Becki, “what parent wouldn’t go to the ends of the earth to help their child”.

Having gone to school with Becki I contacted her to ask if Potters Crouch Candles could make a fund raising candle for Bailey, and by complete coincidence discovered that Bailey loves candles and buys them regularly for his Mum. Following a meeting with Bailey we are now able to offer you the ‘BELIEVE’ candle. The candle has been designed from start to finish by Bailey, he chose a fruity, grapey berry scent called ‘Bailey’s Berry Blast’ which we love and he has even designed the labels which we brought to life for him. The lid design is a magic wand with stars bursting out and the word BELIEVE, as this is what Bailey has asked us all to do for him...to believe he can beat this. The band label is a picture of Bailey fishing for stars and as a good angler he has of course caught the biggest star of all! The words read “believe with all your heart, achieve with all your might”. The candle is a midnight blue colour with beautiful sparkles on it which look like the stars in the sky says Bailey. There is also one special star in the sky, a Chaton crystal which looks like the North Star always leading us in the right direction.

Bailey is a wonderful young man who knows his own mind and he has the sweetest and most gentle spirit...he truly is the brightest star.

Bailey is so committed to this project that when he is not having hospital treatment he insists on being here to make them himself. So not only are you getting a candle designed by him...you are getting a candle made by him!
